NASA Helped Ferrari Fine-Tune Acceleration of First EV, Luce
Ferrari enlisted NASA’s space experts to manage the acceleration of its first fully-electric car, the Luce, ensuring a smooth and comfortable driving experience for its clientele. While the Italian marque aims to make it powerful, they want it to remain inviting.
Ferrari CEO, Benedetto Vigna, explained that while acceleration is important, "it can be too much, because it is disturbing our brain." He emphasized that performance should be judged based on how it’s perceived by humans, not just through technology and numbers.
The brand consulted medical centres and NASA to understand the level of acceleration that disturbs people. Despite its refined g-forces, the Ferrari Luce will undoubtedly still be fast, with a confirmed power output of over 1000 metric horsepower (735kW) in ‘boost’ mode, a 2.5-second zero to 100km/h acceleration time, and a top speed of 310km/h.
Further details will be revealed at the Luce’s official launch, scheduled for May.
