MG Majestor D+ Segment SUV Conquers Spiti’s -20 Degree Winter [Video]

JSW MG Motor took the Majestor through Spiti Valley last week in conditions that eliminate any margin for error. The vehicle braved temperatures dropping to minus 20 degrees Celsius, crossing a 2-foot snow bed, reaching Key Gompa at 13,668 feet, and driving across Chicham Bridge, the highest suspension bridge in Asia. Spiti in winter is an extremely hostile terrain with no controlled setting to replicate it.
The Majestor is powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine producing 215.5 PS and 478.5 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It offers both 2WD and 4WD configurations with 10 off-road modes, triple differential locks, and Crawl Control Mode for low-speed precision over extreme surfaces. Ground clearance stands at 219 mm, and the water wading capacity is 810 mm.
What the Spiti Run Actually Tested
The journey to Key Gompa on a near-vertical cliff face presented challenges:
- Steep Road: The road is narrow, iced over in winter, and steep, requiring careful brake management.
- Snow Mode & Crawl Control: The Majestor utilized these features for better traction and control on icy surfaces.
- Chicham Bridge: This suspension bridge tests chassis stiffness and suspension tuning under heavy loads.
Market Positioning and Features
Located in the D+ segment alongside the Toyota Fortuner, the Majestor offers Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) with steering, acceleration, and braking control within defined highway parameters—a unique feature in this segment. The Gloster, its predecessor, lacked these advanced features.
5-5-5 Ownership Package
The Majestor comes with a comprehensive warranty structure:
- 5-Year Unlimited Kilometre Warranty
- 5-Year Roadside Assistance
