Ola Electric Secures PLI Certification for Roadster X Plus
Ola Electric has secured Production Linked Incentive (PLI) certification for the Roadster X Plus in its 4.5 kWh battery variant. The certification, issued by the Ministry of Heavy Industries, formally confirms that the motorcycle meets domestic value addition requirements under the government’s PLI scheme for advanced chemistry cell batteries and electric vehicles.
Why PLI Certification Matters
PLI certification is crucial because it determines a buyer’s eligibility for FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles) subsidies or state-level EV incentives at the time of purchase. Without PLI certification, a vehicle may not qualify for these benefits or could receive a reduced subsidy rate. With the certification in place, buyers of the Roadster X Plus 4.5 kWh are eligible for applicable government incentives, directly lowering the effective purchase price.
The Specific Variant and Pricing
The Roadster X Plus 4.5 kWh is the mid-variant of the Roadster X lineup, priced at Rs 1,09,999 before any subsidies or state incentives. It boasts a certified range of 321 km, a top speed of 123 kmph, and a peak motor output of 11 kW.
The 4680 Bharat Cell battery format, manufactured in-house by Ola at its Krishnagiri facility, is used across the Roadster X Plus range. Government certification for this cell was granted in December 2025, followed by PLI certification for the specific variant.
Key Features and Market Positioning
With a claimed 321 km range from a 4.5 kWh pack, the Roadster X Plus stands out for its high efficiency on paper. It’s designed to appeal to buyers seeking motorcycle-like performance without the higher price point of traditional motorbikes.
The PLI scheme requires that a minimum percentage of the vehicle’s value be sourced domestically, encouraging local manufacturing and making Ola’s in-house 4680 Bharat Cell production facility crucial to its eligibility. The factory aims for a staggering 20 GWh annual capacity once fully scaled up.
